Title and meta description checker

Missing, duplicate, multiple, too long or too short titles and descriptions, titles equal to the H1, templated titles and meta tags placed outside the head.

Title and meta description checker

Per page and across the site

Duplicates and templated prefixes need the whole crawl; length checks run per page with configurable thresholds.

Title and meta description checker

Drafts

meta-description-drafts proposes descriptions for pages that lack them.

How it works

Three steps, one saved scan

  1. Read one page's title and description

parse returns the title and meta description of a single URL in one command.

  2. Compare them across the site

Duplicate and templated titles or descriptions show up only when the whole site is crawled and compared.

  3. Check lengths against limits

Titles over 60 characters or 561 px, and descriptions outside 70 to 160 characters, are flagged; the limits are configurable.

Questions

Title and meta description checker
No for a single page: seohead parse --url reads the title and description directly. Duplicates and templated titles need a site crawl, which SpiderHead gets from Screaming Frog exports (sf run --exports-dir) or from a crawl through the licensed Screaming Frog CLI.
By default a title is flagged above 60 characters or 561 px, and below 30 characters. A description is flagged above 160 characters and below 70. All limits can be changed in the config.
No. The checks only read pages. Nothing is written to your CMS, and drafts stay as local files you review yourself.
No. meta-description-drafts checks description drafts that an AI agent supplies, flags problems for review, and can export them as local JSON or CSV. It does not call a model.
