Yandex Metrica is a web analytics service for configuring tags, goals and reports that describe visits, sources, behaviour and selected site events.
Set the measurement question
Analytics is useful only when the counter, goals, time zone, consent approach and report grain match the question. A report can combine dimensions, metrics, segments and sampling, so its label alone does not explain what the number means. Protect visitor privacy and document definitions before comparing periods.
How to inspect it
Check that the tag is collecting data, goals are configured and the report states period, segment, metric, dimension and sampling status. Keep search clicks distinct from analytics sessions. I check measurement setup before interpreting a conversion number: zero may mean an unconfigured goal rather than an absent business outcome.
How to implement or improve it
Create a small reporting specification: question, eligible population, period, time zone, attribution choice and verification step. Use consistent URLs when joining reports to crawl or search data, retain unmatched rows and note any sampling or privacy restrictions. Recheck goal implementation after releases.
Limits and common mistakes
The failure mode is presenting an aggregated chart as a causal result. Analytics measures according to its configured model; it does not prove that a page change caused revenue or rankings.
A report specification should state whether it uses sessions or hits, which dimensions are the grouping key, which metrics are calculated, the selected period, tag time zone, attribution choice and sampling state. Build one report around one question. For example, a landing-page review may use URL as a dimension and sessions plus a configured goal as metrics; it should not add search-console clicks to the same total. Before interpreting a zero, test the tag and goal on a real user path and confirm the event is received. When a report is sampled, record that limitation with the export. Treat recordings and behavioural tools as privacy-sensitive evidence, not as a reason to collect more personal data than the measurement needs.
